The buccal swabs provided with your DNA test kit are very easy and clean to use. We
suggest you open one envelope at a time, remove the small envelope containing the two
buccal swabs, but do not open the swab envelope until after you complete the questions on
the outside of the envelope and provide your signature and date.
Once the questions on the outside of the brown envelope is completed, then open the
buccal swab envelope at the stick end of the envelope (a brief inspection will reveal which
end is the stick end and which end is the swab end). Pull the swabs out of the envelope,
being very careful that you do not touch the cotton swab end of the swab. The test subject
will need to open his or her mouth, and then gently insert the cotton end of the swab into the
mouth until the swab is against the inside of the cheek. Vigorously rub the swab against the
inside of the cheek for 10 seconds. Place that used swab, again being very careful not to
touch it, back into the original swab envelope.
Using the second swab, repeat the process on the opposite inside cheek of the test
subject. Once done, place the second swab from the same test subject back into the
narrow envelope along with the first one.
Place that envelope containing the used buccal swabs into the brown envelope, ensuring
the requested information and signature is provided, then seal the brown envelope with the
tamper-proof seal that is provided.
Repeat this sequence as required by your kit’s composition.
